Instructions

Preparing the Onions
  1. Slice onions in thin rounds.
  2. In a large sauce pot, melt butter over low heat.
  3. Add onions and 2 tbls sugar.
  4. Let onions caramelize over low heat until slightly translucent (don't overcook)
  5. Slowly stir in cornstarch with a bit of water.
  6. Add wine slowly while stirring.
  7. Add the rest of ingredients. Stir and let simmer for about an hour.

Notes

  • Don't overcook the onions!
  • You can use vermouth in place of red wine.
  • Add thick toasted bread and cheese if you'd like.
