Tomorrow’s gelato

All around me—in the bustling streets of Naples, in the cliff-side charm of Anacapri, and in the sunlit alleys of Sorrento—Italians were eating gelato like there was no tomorrow. And if it wasn’t gelato, it was drinking wine, eating food, and having a look-you-in-the-eye conversation—fully living in the moment. Prideful of their work and their wares, Italians served it all with warmth and care.

Crush the grapes, taste the reward.

Italians don’t wait for tomorrow to eat gelato—but they work hard to make it. Life (and gelato) is sweeter when you do the work and share what you love.

My mother’s table

Standing by Mom’s side, I admired the care she put into cooking and welcoming family and friends. Her hospitality wasn’t loud. It was steady. It was felt. You could taste the effort in every dish—and feel it in the warmth of her welcome.

In Italy, I felt that same steady pride and care, only bigger, more elemental. Italy was majestic, emotional, unforgettable. Amid the bustle and beauty, it wasn’t about luxuries or ideals—it was about collective moments, shared curiosity, and leaning into the places we hadn’t yet been, with people we didn’t yet know. It was about doing the work, and savoring the fruits. It was about eating the gelato.

And maybe that’s why I’ll never forget the man selling lemonade on the side of the road—grinning, giving a thumbs up, as if he had everything he needed. No fuss. No rush. Just pride, generosity, and joy in what he offered.

Life is Sweet

Lemons are everywhere—I’ll have mine sweetened with a thumbs up!

It reminded me of Mom. Of the way she cooked, the way she welcomed, the way food — even something simple — becomes an invitation to connect. That’s the lesson I was reminded of—the same lesson I learned at Mom’s table: be present, share what you have, and don’t wait for tomorrow to enjoy the gelato.

Standing by my mother’s side, I learned that the best food comes from care and attention. That’s the philosophy behind SALTY MAMINA—garlic salt blends made with love, crafted to bring warmth and flavor to every meal.

Enjoy all the moments,

Carla
